With one of the sloppiest super bowls ever finally done with, the NFL season is officially over (I don't count the pro bowl, nobody plays real hard). No pro sport compares to the NFL, football players play for more than the money, in the end it comes down to the players around you and winning FOR them. Congratulations to the "the Bus" on a heck of a career and the Pittsburg Steelers, world champions of the greatest game in the world! |

The music industry has lowered itself to something lower than pond scum. The RIAA screams whenever someone downloads a mp3 file, but in recent years has done nothing but to continue to promote mediocre to far less than mediocre crap to the American public. Despite my rantings and ravings about Rap music, the latest offender is from those supposedly "family oriented" folks in the country music biz. Trace Adkins (who, might I add, would get rejected on the spot at an American Idol audition) has put out a (gold) record called Honky Tonk Badonkadonk (Not a joke, that's the actual title). While I would not in any way presume to know the private life of Mr. Adkins.....there was definitely something illegal (or at least mentally inhibiting) being smoked when that one was written. Oh and to add insult to injury it is the number one selling record on the country music charts. Thanks 75 IQed rednecks. |

According to a new study by psychology researchers, staunch Democrats and Republicans lack activity in the areas of the brain responsible for logical reasoning. Instead, when presented with facts that went against their current opinion, their brains showed activity in the areas that control emotion and conflict resolution. This only goes to further enhance my belief that the public should not vote for candidates from the fringes of the two parties but instead chose those from the middle capable of logical reasoning.

Jonathan "the impaler (and dilusional)" Sharkey is running for Governor of Minnesota. Jonathan believes in the death penalty, better veteran benefits, lower taxes, that he is a vampire, and that Satan rules the universe. And, despite all this, there has been very little outcry from the Christian right...and I can tell you why. Even right wing christians feel sorry for the mentally handicapped.
Check out mr "the impaler's" web site if you don't believe me. http://www.jonathonforgovernor.us/Home_page.html |

I have never been a fan of censorship. However, I have recently come to the conclusion that Rap Music and the culture that surrounds its biggest stars should be under closer scrutiny. I have witnessed first hand the devastating effects that the promotion of the music and the culture has on kids as little as 6 and 7 years old. Young men in poverty stricken areas grasp on to the ideals of 'pimpin' and 'slanging' and see their idols engaged in behavior that a normal person could not get away with and have a successful future. I also see middle and grade school girls having low self esteem and engaging in dangerous behaviors because they are impressionable and buy into the image of women (as objects) that most rap artists portray them as. I think its time that censorship be brought back into place and used to keep some of more vile offenders off the radio and out of the retail markets.

Well, another year, probably another failed bid to make the playoffs for my Kansas City Chiefs. At 8-6 they will have to win out and get some help from San Diego and Pittsburg's opponents, otherwise TDS will be crying until draft day.

A Federal Judge in Pennsylvania struck down a school board decision that allowed for the teaching of intelligent design alongside other theories of life's origin. As a teacher, I don't understand why ideas can't be taught freely, despite any controversy they may spark. I strongly disagree with the decision because it takes away First Amendment rights and doesn't allow for the students to be exposed to new or different ideas.

| » 10,000 Fists |
I bought Disturbed's latest effort, 10,000 Fists, over the weekend. The album just plain rocks!!! It is far superior to their debut ("The Sickness"), and slightly better than their last album ("Believe"), which was pretty dang good itself. The album has a little of everything on it from the anthem-like title tract to a great indictment of President Bush ("Deify"). The band abandons many of the industry gimmicks from the first album and to some extent, even the second album. In parts, lead singer David Draiman sounds much more like a harder Phil Collins than the same guy that growled his way though "down with the sickness", which is interesting in that they did decide to cover Genesis' "land of confusion". All of that put together, "Fists" feels like a truly honest work and in my opinion is one of the better metal albums in recent memory. ****

| » Nuke West County!!!! |
In yet another shining example of West St. Louis County's screwing of the rest of the State of Missouri, Republican Jane Cunningham has threatened to cut the funding to the Sue Shear Institute for Women in Public Life, a University of Missouri Program aimed at helping women run for public office. Cunningham claims that the program is bias against Conservative Republicans, despite the fact that 33% of Republican women in public office are graduates of the program...compared to 27% of Democrats. Ya see folks, Cunningham herself is a grad of the program, but got her underwear up in a bunch when she couldn't get an intern from the organization to help her with a legislative campaign. So now she's on a crusade against the organization and it appears, because of the rest of the state's Republicans sell out to the West County leadership, that she has the votes to get it done. They did the exact same thing when West County native and fellow wench Katherine Hannaway increased state funds to two of the most wealthy school districts in the state while simultaneously cutting millions of dollars that were earmarked for poor, republican-represented, rural school district. I just can't figure out why these other Republicans sell out to the West County folks...I just$ don't$ know$.

Crap has begun leaking into the creeks of...(not that this is a shock to us Missourians) Jefferson County from a sewage plant that treats more waste than it can hold. The Central Jefferson County Utility Co plant has been illegally dumping sewage sludge into a creek since perhaps 1986. The interesting thing about this is that the director of the utility is Jeremiah Nixon, father of Missouri Attorney General Jeremiah "Jay" Nixon II. Jay a staunch Republ...Democrat has talked it up about how the...cough..cough...environment is one of his top issues. I'm sure that's how his father's company has been able to dump crap in our water since, well, I don't know, about the time Jay took public office. And Jay is leading contender to run for governor against Blunt in 2008. Talk about choices, Jay "The Shiet Dumper" Nixon vs Matt "I do what they tell me" Blunt...now that is some crap!
